Christine is here to walk you through each step of sewing your own reusable period pads from anywhere in the world. By following this guide, you’ll not only take control of your period care but also contribute to a more sustainable future.

Note: If you do not have a sewing machine, here’s a guide from Action Aid, UK, to help you out!

Sewing a reusable Luna Wolf period pad

At Sew On we are all about open source, we mostly use the free-to-use patterns designed by Luna Wolf.

You can download it from here:

Then gather the following

  • Scissors and pins
  • Pens to mark fabrics, a ball pen or soft pencil will do
  • Cut out the pattern you have chosen
  • Pre-washed flannelette, 100 % cotton for the topper
  • Pre-washed 100% natural fabric e.g. quilting cotton for the backer
  • PUL Polyurethanlaminate for the waterproof layer
  • Pre-washed fabric for the core, e.g. terry cloth, flannelette, 100% natural fibre
  • Sewing thread. You will need cotton and polyester sewing thread to make your pads compostable as well as functional
  • Snaps or buttons (or velcro)
  • A sewing machine
